MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Since 1993 the energy intensity of Belarus' gross domestic product has dropped by virtually 80%, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, Director of the Energy Effectiveness Department of the State Standardization Committee Vitaly Kretsky on the sidelines of the 27th Belarusian energy and ecology forum Energy Expo, which is taking place in Minsk on 17-20 October.
Vitaly Kretsky said: “This international forum has become a platform for sharing experience and best practices in the sphere of energy effectiveness and energy saving, for presenting new technologies, addressing issues in the area of power engineering and ecology. Events of the last few years demonstrate that at present not a single country cannot but be concerned about energy security and independence regardless of whether the country has sufficient domestic reserves of energy resources or not.”
The official stressed: “I am very glad that this year Belarus marks the 30th anniversary since the energy saving system was created. And we have something to be proud of. Since 1993 the energy intensity of the gross domestic product has dropped by virtually 80%. The drop is twice as intensive as the reduction of this indicator on the average across the globe.”
The Belarusian energy and ecology forum Energy Expo is one of the largest events in the area of power engineering, manufacturing sector, ecology, energy saving, oil refining, environmental protection, and usage of renewable sources of energy. As an open dialogue platform for discussing and working out the key aspects that determine the future development of the energy industry, matters of energy effectiveness and energy saving, the forum brings together a broad range of participants, including representatives of state administration bodies, the largest companies, and scientific organizations.
The international specialized exhibition “Energy. Ecology. Energy Saving. Electro” has been organized as part of the forum. This year's exhibition features over 250 R&D products and innovative projects of leading companies and organizations focusing on energy- and resource saving technologies, power engineering, gas industry, digital development, and ecology.
The Energy Effectiveness Department takes part in the exhibition by arranging an exposition dedicated to the 30 years since the department's foundation. The exposition demonstrates the main areas of the work and accomplishments in the area of energy saving and efforts to improve energy efficiency. The exposition met genuine interest on the part of participants of the forum.
The forum's business program includes 19 events such as conferences, seminars, roundtable sessions, during which Belarusian and foreign experts present modern technological solutions in the area of power engineering, petrochemical industry, energy saving, and ecology.
The Energy Effectiveness Department takes part in the business program, in particular, in the following events: “Possibilities of using natural cooling agents for energy saving and increasing efficiency of refrigeration plants” (a seminar), “Efficient use of electric energy - the way to sustainable development of a competitive economy” and “Utilization of local fuel and energy resources. The current state of affairs prospective directions” (roundtable sessions).
