Belarus government, IAEA discuss nuclear safety practices

A high-level seminar for representatives of government agencies and organizations taking part in the implementation of the Belarusian nuclear energy program took place at premises of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on 2 December under the aegis of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told BelTA.

A delegation led by IAEA Deputy Director General Denis Flory arrived in Belarus for the sake of taking part in the event. The delegation included top officers of the agencies in charge of regulating nuclear and radiation safety in Vietnam, Russia, the USA, France, as well as officers of the IAEA Secretariat and the European Commission.

The seminar was focused on discussing modern international practices used to ensure nuclear safety and raise the awareness about proper nuclear safety standards.

While in Belarus members of the delegation are expected to meet with First Vice Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko, Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik, Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko, top officers of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry. The IAEA Deputy Director General is expected to visit the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
