Belarus, IAEA to discuss cooperation in nuclear security in Vienna

A Belarusian delegation led by First Deputy Emergencies Minister Vasily Stepanenko will take part in the International Conference on Nuclear Security: Enhancing Global Efforts that will be held in Vienna on 1-5 July, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh has told reporters on 27 June, BelTA has learnt.

The head of the Belarusian delegation will inform high level participants about Belarus’ efforts to enhance physical protection of nuclear materials and about cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Belarusian delegation is set to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of the IAEA Secretariat to discuss joint efforts to strengthen nuclear security, Andrei Savinykh informed.

Another Belarusian delegation is taking part in the conference “Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century” in Saint Petersburg on 27 June. The delegation is led by Energy Minister of Belarus Vladimir Potupchik. The delegation also includes Deputy Head of the Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry Yuri Yaroshevich.

“The participants of the conference will discuss the role of nuclear energy in the modern world and its development prospects taking into consideration the increasing global demand for electric energy. The Belarusian delegation will present a national nuclear energy program and will take part in discussions on the key issues of the nuclear energy agenda,” Andrei Savinykh said.

The representatives of Belarus will meet with members of the IAEA Secretariat and heads of delegations of partner states.
