Belarus pays for oil from Russia in Russian rubles

18.03.2015
Belarus uses mainly the Russian currency to pay for the Russian oil, Belneftekhim head Igor Lyashenko told a press conference on 18 March, BelTA has learned.

“The overall majority of payments for the Russian oil are made in Russian rubles. There are no proposals (to convert them into U.S. dollars - BelTA),” Igor Lyashenko said. In his words, the oil price is set in the U.S. dollars with the conversion according to the official exchange rate. Igor Lyashenko did not specify the date when Belarus started paying for the Russian oil in the currency of the Russian Federation.

In autumn 2014 the Union State Council of Ministers signed the energy balance sheets for 2015, according to which Belarus will import 23 million tonnes of oil, including 22 million tonnes through pipelines.
