Belarus, Russia nearly done drafting common electricity market agreement

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – The energy ministries of Belarus and Russia are about to finish preparing a draft international agreement on forming the common electricity market of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Topical aspects of Belarus-Russia cooperation in the sphere of power engineering industry were discussed during a videoconference of Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Denis Moroz and Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Snikkars, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

Denis Moroz and Pavel Snikkars discussed terms of cooperation within the framework of the action plan on implementing the Union State program on forming the common market of electricity.

Close attention was paid to progress in drafting an international agreement on forming the united market of electricity of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and rules of its operation. Denis Moroz noted that most of the issues concerning the draft agreement had been reconciled. “The document is in the final stage of preparations for signing,” he stated.

During the videoconference the sides also discussed approaches to transition to Russian rubles for monetary transactions between commercial entities operating in the power engineering industry.
