Belarus, Russia to exchange information on nuclear safety

The Government of Belarus and the Government of Russia have signed the agreement providing for immediate notification about nuclear accidents and exchange of information about nuclear and radiation safety. The document was concluded by Emergencies Minister of Belarus Vladimir Vashchenko and First Deputy Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom Alexander Lokshin at the session of the Union State Council of Ministers that took place in Moscow on 13 December, BelTA has learnt.
The agreement will oblige the country where a nuclear accident has happened to immediately notify the other state about it and provide all the available information about the accident in order to minimize its consequences. The parties to the agreement shall inform each other about deterioration of radiation environment. Belarus and Russia undertake to exchange information about the safety of nuclear installations on their territory. The document makes a reservation that the countries shall not share information that is protected by their legislations or by international agreements. The parties to the agreement undertake to restrict access to nuclear safety information having the “For Official Use Only” designation.
Emergencies Minister of Belarus and Minister of Transport of Russia Maxim Sokolov signed Belarus-Russia intergovernmental cooperation agreement in aviation search and rescue.
