Belarus, Russia working on contract to create hi-res satellites

14.04.2022
MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – The Russian side and the Belarusian one have started working out a contract on creating a group of high-resolution imagery satellites, which will allow producing unique satellite imagery, TASS quoted Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin as saying on the air of the TV channel Soloviev.Live.

Dmitry Rogozin said: “We’ve actually started forming a Belarusian-Russian contract on creating an entire group of high-resolution imagery satellites, which will allow producing unique data such as photos of up to 30cm resolution and videos of up to 0.5m resolution. Peleng Company will come in handy. The two presidents have virtually declared they had given a go-ahead to the creation of such an orbital constellation.”

In his words, such an orbital constellation will allow seeing an object as small as an iPad from the orbit. “You will get not only an image. It will be mathematically processed according to so-called algorithms. In reality you will get more details. Math will guess images and decipher them,” he added.

“This is why the Russian-Belarusian space system has been launched,” Dmitry Rogozin concluded.

On 12 April Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin visited the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Amur Oblast. The heads of state went to see key installations such as the command post and the launch pad for the launch vehicle Angara. Then they met with personnel of the cosmodrome and with cosmonauts. The Russian president said that Belarusian specialists will soon get an opportunity to participate in the development of the Vostochny Cosmodrome. Vladimir Putin also mentioned Roscosmos had been instructed to make preparations and organize a flight of Belarus’ representative on a Russian spaceship.
