In 2014 Belarus will reduce electricity import by 30%, Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told media.
BelTA has learned that Belarus is going to consistently reduce the volume of electricity import every year starting in 2014. Some electricity will still be imported, including within the framework of mutual aid arrangements with Russia and the Baltic states, due to the technical necessity, for the sake of stable operation in the autumn-winter period, and due to repairs.
The Deputy Energy Minister estimated that in 2013 Belarus imported 20-25% of the national demand for electricity. “We expect the output as high as 29 billion kWh this year while consumption volume will be slightly more than that,” specified Viktor Karankevich.
