ALMATY, 2 February (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union should step up efforts aimed at forming joint energy markets. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement at a session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, BelTA has learned.
Roman Golovchenko said: “I’d like to mention the progress, which was secured last year in the course of negotiations on setting up the common markets of energy resources. Their potential is huge. The annual volume of mutual trade in electricity on the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union is 9 times below the technically possible one. Belarus believes that the Eurasian Economic Commission and EAEU member states should work harder to find a mutually acceptable consensus. It applies to all the markets of energy resources.”
The agenda of today’s session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council includes the macroeconomic situation in countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and proposals on ensuring steady economic development, the current state and prospects of development of the EAEU’s integrated information system, progress in implementing the roadmap on enabling favorable conditions for the development of digital trade in the union, amendments to the list of priority integration projects in the sphere of transport infrastructure. Participants of the session are also expected to discuss progress in implementing the Eurasian Agroexpress project. It is a joint project for accelerated transportation of agricultural goods and food by rail and by multimodal transportation.
