Belarusian specialists to get training at IAEA seminar on 15-18 July

A seminar of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding the quality control at the nuclear power plant construction site will take place in Minsk on 15-18 July, BelTA learned from the communications and public relations department of the nuclear and radiation safety department of the Emergencies Ministry.

“The IAEA seminar is held as part of the large-scale program of raising the professional level of Belarusian specialists who supervise the NPP construction project,” the department explained. The event aims to share knowledge and experience with Belarusian specialists who inspect the Belarusian NPP construction project.

International experts from the IAEA, the United State Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the State Agency of Nuclear Safety of Czechia will tell Belarusian specialists about the fulfillment of relevant functions during the construction of the nuclear power plant, the choice of inspection areas, the role of a permanent inspector at the NPP construction site. “The program of the seminar will include theoretical and practical courses, visits to the construction site of the Belarusian NPP in Ostrovets,” according to the department.

A week ago Russian specialists organized courses for Belarusian specialists at the Republican Institute of Higher Learning.

BelTA reported earlier that the existing branch of the nuclear and radiation safety department will start operating on the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) at the end of 2014. The branch will include ten specialists. At present there are a number of scheduled and unscheduled inspections at the NPP construction site.
