Belarusians invited to study nuclear technologies in Obninsk Tech in Russia

MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – The international science and education center for nuclear technologies and related ones Obninsk Tech is being established in the Russian city of Obninsk. Belarusian specialists will also be able to study there, the digital press center of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom told BelTA.

This possibility was mentioned during the international youth nuclear forum Obninsk NEW, which has been organized with Rosatom's support. In his address to participants of the forum Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin pointed out that the future of the world nuclear industry depends on young professionals. He remarked that active work is starting in Obninsk to set up the international science and education center for nuclear technologies and related ones Obninsk Tech. The prime minister said: “I am convinced it will become the leading cluster and an attraction point for gifted youth from all over the world. It will help train high-class specialists, who are needed in various branches of the economy. It will allow securing Russia's technological sovereignty in the area of new nuclear science.”

Rosatom Director General Aleksei Likhachev explained that nuclear industry had evolved from science. This is why carefully trained specialists are crucial to ensuring the industry's further development and the creation of sustainable future. “With support of the Russian president we are creating a global cluster for nuclear education. Young people should be the ones to determine what education of tomorrow and the day after tomorrow should be. It is our job to help young people with this work. This is why today we are creating a unique international science and education platform in Obninsk together with MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute), the leader of Rosatom's consortium of backbone universities. This platform will train specialists for atomic projects of the future,” he said.

The international youth nuclear forum Obninsk NEW 2023 is the first nuclear forum organized for young people in Obninsk. More than 500 experts, young scientists and specialists from over 70 countries turned up for the forum. They will discuss the global challenges the industry faces on the way towards creating a future based on sustainable development principles. They will also discuss prospects of development of nuclear science and related sciences, the creation of a new system for training and managing careers of nuclear industry specialists.

The forum will continue working till 23 September.
