The CIS Heads of Government Council has signed the agreement on coordinating relations in peaceful uses of atomic energy, BelTA has learned.
The agreement on coordinating interstate relations of the CIS states in peaceful uses of atomic energy has been signed along with the protocol on amending the agreement on the guidelines for cooperation in peaceful uses of atomic energy of 26 June 1992.
The agreement has been worked out as part of the efforts to fulfill the action plan to implement the first stage (2009-2011) of the strategy designed to guide the economic development of the Commonwealth of Independent States till 2020.
The document provides for taking coordinated measures to ensure joint actions aimed at the sustainable development of nuclear power engineering and to enable assistance in implementing the CIS legal base in peaceful uses of atomic energy.
The sides have undertaken to cooperate in bringing together national norms and rules that foster nuclear and radiation safety, cooperate in coordinating their interaction in emergencies. Besides, the CIS states will carry out joint R&D projects, implement joint interstate bilateral and multilateral projects in the area of the nuclear fuel cycle and the nuclear energy complex. Cooperation will be advanced in training highly qualified personnel, too.
In line with the document every party to the agreement will assign authorized agencies to implement the agreement and ensure coordination of efforts of the said party in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The CIS commission for peaceful uses of atomic energy will be the body in charge of coordinating the interaction of the authorized national agencies.
