MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Digitization improves the effective operation of the fuel and energy complex. Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich pointed it out as he and Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan visited the Energy Expo on 20 October, the Energy Ministry press service told BelTA.
Digital transformation is the most important priority for Belarus' fuel and energy complex, the press service noted. It is reflected in industry-specific programs and strategies. Innovative projects to introduce modern digital solutions and technologies are being implemented in a number of areas: the development of smart power grids, the construction of digital substations for various voltage levels, the digitization of business processes by leveraging intellectual systems, and the use of artificial intelligence.
Close attention is paid to the creation of digital twins. Those are computer models of individual facilities and entire branches. As an example Viktor Karankevich mentioned a project to create a digital twin of the gas industry – the universal digital space that enables prompt data collection and processing, allows tracking the performance of equipment in real time in addition to reducing operating costs, promptly responding to off-nominal situations, and ensuring reliable supply of natural gas. The use of in-house software suites is a competitive advantage in this area.
The energy minister also dwelled on the possibilities the use of virtual reality technologies offers. By using the training center of the electrical company RUP Vitebskenergo as an example, he explained how modern VR simulators are used to train personnel and practice the accomplishment of complicated technical tasks the servicing of power engineering equipment involves.
The Belarusian energy and ecology forum Energy Expo is one of the largest specialized exhibition events. It is organized every year with a view to developing the innovation potential of the fuel and energy complex. The forum brings together industry-specific organizations and leading producers of equipment and technologies for power engineering industry and allied trades. This year they traditionally present innovative projects and cutting-edge solutions for electric energy industry, gas industry, energy- and resource-saving technologies, digital development, and ecology.
