In January-November 2014 the energy intensity of Belarus’ GDP dropped by 1.7%. The information was released by Sergei Semashko, Deputy Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, Director of the Energy Effectiveness Department, at the expanded participation session of the Committee’s board on 9 January, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Semashko explained: “In January-November the energy intensity of Belarus’ GDP dropped by 1.7% while the GDP growth rate was 101.7%. Unfortunately, we have been unable to hit the 3% target”.
The official attributed the failure to hit the targeted reduction of energy intensity of the GDP in 2014 to the low GDP growth rate and increased use of fuel as a raw material to make non-fuel products.
In 2015 Belarus will have to reduce energy intensity of the GDP by 0.5-1% and raise the share of locally available fuels in boiler and furnace fuels to 28-30%.
