Belarus shares all information about the construction of its nuclear power plant (NPP), Belarus’ First Deputy Energy Minister Leonid Shenets said at the 5th Belarusian-German Energy Forum in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
“We are open to everyone in what concerns the construction of the nuclear power plant. Even the smallest details on the project are available in the information center in Ostrovets. We are absolutely open for our neighbors regarding the NPP construction project,” Leonid Shenets noted.
According to the First Deputy Energy Minister, the nuclear power plant will help Belarus replace over 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas on an annual basis. Once the nuclear power plant is operational in its basic mode, the Belarusian power grid will offer 17 billion kWh of electricity to consumers per annum. “This will account for 21% of the aggregate consumption in the country,” Leonid Shenets added.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
