27.10.2016
The European Union plans to seek closer cooperation with Belarus in the field of energy, Head of the European Union Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin said when speaking at the international conference Pan-European Integration Processes: Towards a Mutual Vision through Cross-Border Synergies, BelTA has learned.

“As part of this interaction, the European Commission would like to resume the dialogue with Belarus on this topic, because nuclear safety has always been one of the areas of concern for the EU,” said Andrea Wiktorin. She added that cooperation in this area was discussed with the Belarusian side in late September and will be continued in the future.

Topical area of cooperation between the EU and Belarus is the fight against illegal migration and cross-border crime. In this regard, Andrea Wiktorin noted that the parties signed a partnership agreement in the field of mobility in October.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission's Directorate General for Trade has recently held the first round of trade dialogue. According to Andrea Wiktorin, this was another step to enhance cooperation.

The diplomat also noted that the European Union, in light of the conflict in Ukraine, highly appreciates the contribution of Belarus to the stability and peace in the region.

“We have agreed that we will continue to work at different levels to move forward and make progress in various fields. We believe we can achieve this by strengthening communication,” Andrea Wiktorin stressed.
