EU to provide €5m for 2MW wind farm construction in Belarus

The European Union will allocate €5 million for the construction of a wind farm in Belarus, BelTA learnt from First Deputy Minister of Natural resources and Environment of Belarus Vitaly Kulik.

“As part of the Green Economy program the European Union will provide Belarus with €5 million for the construction of a wind farm. A total of €12 million have been allocated to address environmental issues,” Vitaly Kulik said.

The wind farm will be built in Novogrudok. According to specialists, the city has all necessary resources for the construction of the object. Besides, Novogrudok houses an educational center of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment that will train specialists for wind farms. It is expected that the construction of the wind farm will be launched in 2015.

According to Vitaly Kulik, Belarus and the EU will hold the sixth expert consultations on environmental protection in May 2014. “Five consultation rounds have already taken place. The sixth meeting will be held in May. At present the Belarusian and European experience is used as a basis to reform the legislation in part of the government’s ecological expertise, environmental impact evaluation, water protection and others,” the official said.
