26.06.2013

Russia is among the world leaders in nuclear energy, and the role of Russia in the global development of peaceful atomic energy has been recently increasing, international experts told journalists on the sidelines of the International Industry Forum ATOMEXPO 2013 that opened in St. Petersburg on 26 June.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director General for Development and International Business at Rosatom Kirill Komarov stressed that this year ATOMEXPO precedes the high-level IAEA conference "Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century", which is a key event in the life of the nuclear community around the world. “Such conferences are held every four years. This year Russia has the honor to host delegations from 80 countries of the world,” he said.

According to Kirill Komarov, ATOMEXPO 2013 is expected to formulate the business agenda of interaction in nuclear energy. "Thus we will create the context for further discussion of global issues of development of nuclear energy at the IAEA conference," he added.

The program of ATOMEXPO 2013 features nine roundtables, including on the integrated approach to the development of nuclear energy and environmental protection.

Attending the forum are representatives of 102 companies from 42 countries.

St. Petersburg is playing host to the International Industry Forum ATOMEXPO 2013 on 26-28 June. The participants will have extensive and frank discussions on all topics of development of nuclear energy. The forum will feature thematic sessions on integrated approaches to the development of nuclear energy, personnel training and innovative projects.

The International Industry Forum ATOMEXPO 2013 will take place in the run-up to the International Ministerial Conference “Nuclear Power in the 21st Century” to be held by the IAEA in Saint Petersburg on June 27-29.
