Experts to discuss nuclear power plant's significance for Belarusian economy on 12 October

MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – The significance of the Belarusian nuclear power plant for the country's economy will be discussed by Belarusian experts and international ones in Minsk on 12 October, the press service of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom told BelTA.

According to the source, nuclear energy is getting increasingly recognized all over the world as a guarantor of stability and sustainable development. Belarus' first experience in the sphere of development of nuclear energy industry as well as future prospects will be discussed by experts during a roundtable session on economic and ecological aspects of nuclear energy on 12 October. The roundtable session will be part of the business program of the 25th Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum.

The event is organized by the Belarusian Energy Ministry and Rosatom.

Nadezhda Zdanevich, Head of the Nuclear Power Plant Technical Support Office of the Belarusian national energy company Belenergo, will present the experience Belarus has accumulated in the course of implementing the national nuclear energy program. Deputy Chief Engineer for Nuclear Power Plant Technical Support, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Boris Paramonov will present a report on economic aspects and the environmental significance of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The discussion will be moderated by Deputy Director of the Nuclear Energy Industry Department of the Belarusian Energy Ministry Lilia Dulinets.

The roundtable session will gather not only Belarusian experts but representatives of nuclear industry from various countries, including those which have used nuclear power plants for decades and those where nuclear energy era has just dawned. The analyst Karoly Takacs will present up-to-date information about economic and ecological aspects of realization of the Hungarian nuclear power plant project Paks 2. Experts from Egypt and Turkey will talk about the tasks that a country intent on implementing a nuclear energy program of its own has to accomplish.

The Rosatom press service said that the Belarusian nuclear power plant has provided a positive impact on the social and economic development of the area it is in – Grodno Oblast and the nuclear power plant's satellite town of Ostrovets. Svetlana Churilova, Secretary of the Nuclear Power Plant Municipality Development Assistance Fund (ATR AES Fund), will present the Russian experience of development of the regions where nuclear power plants are present. In particular, the creation of a comfortable and safe urban environment will be discussed as well as the enabling of favorable conditions for the development of the human capital and the improvement of living standards.

The roundtable session will take place in the congress hall of the Indoor Football Arena on 12 October.
