The state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant will set up a fund to maintain and bolster safety parameters of the nuclear plant and/or the storage facility, BelTA learned from Belarus’ seventh national report on fulfilling the Convention on Nuclear Safety.
The fund will be established to finance R&D projects and other measures meant to maintain and improve the safety of the nuclear plant and/or the storage facility of the nuclear power plant.
The nuclear power plant operator will also set up a fund to finance the decommissioning of the nuclear plant, including operations to decommission the nuclear plant on schedule or ahead of schedule, measures to limit operational parameters of the nuclear plant.
The report confirms that for the sake of evaluating and improving the nuclear and radiation infrastructure Belarus has requested and intends to receive a number of IAEA assessment missions. The number will include an Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission, a Site and External Events Design (SEED) mission, a Safeguards Advisory Service (ISSAS) mission, an Emergency Prepared and Review Service (EPREV) mission, an Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission, an International Nuclear Security Advisory Service (INSServ) mission, and a preliminary mission of the Operational Safety Review Team (pre-OSART).
The closest one — an IRRS mission — will be in Belarus on 2-14 October. The implementation of the recommendations the assessment missions will produce will contribute to further harmonization of Belarusian nuclear and radiation safety norms with international requirements in addition to ensuring high security standards, the review reads.
