Four Belarusian projects in IAEA 2016-2017 Technical Cooperation Program

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will consider and adopt the Technical Cooperation Program for 2016-2017 at the meeting in Vienna. The program includes four Belarusian projects, spokesperson for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told journalists on 26 November, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian projects for a total amount of around €990,000 are aimed at the development of infrastructure and training of personnel for nuclear power plants, application of nuclear technologies in medicine, and overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The agenda for the meeting includes matters of strengthening the technical cooperation between the IAEA member states and maintaining the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.    

Dmitry Mironchik recalled that Belarus was elected to the IAEA Board of Governors for 2015-2017 in September 2015. He pointed out that membership in the IAEA Board of Governors will help Belarus strengthen its image as a country that actively develops its nuclear industry and uses a wide range of nuclear technologies in science, medicine, and other sectors of economy.

The meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors is running at the organization’s Vienna headquarters from 24 through 27 November. Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov is taking part in the meeting on behalf of Belarus.
