The first privately owned hydropower plant will be built in Grodno Oblast, BelTA learned from representatives of the Slonim District Executive Committee.
The compact power plant will be built on the Issa River in Slonim District. For the sake of implementing the project a contract has been signed by the Grodno Oblast administration and the Slonim-registered company OOO Gidro Park. The project costs Br9 billion and provides for building a dam and installing automatic equipment that will generate about 240kWh of electricity per annum. The private company will sell electricity to the national power grid. An agreement has already been signed with the Energy Ministry and the relevant quota has been granted.
The company intends to implement the project in two stages by September 2017. The preparatory stage includes the development of design and estimate documentation and all the necessary administrative procedures. It will be finished in July 2016, with construction to begin after that. A Polish company will make equipment for the compact hydropower plant.
The construction of the hydropower plant is part of the government program on building hydropower plants in 2011-2015. The project was intended to be funded by the investor. Owned by a local enterprise, a shaft spillway is now located at the site of the future compact hydropower plant.
The power engineering industry project will be the first one for the privately owned company. The investor intends to consider investing in other spheres in Slonim District later on.
At present Grodno Oblast is home to the country’s largest hydropower plant, which output capacity equals 17MW. Solar power plants and wind farms are already operational or are being built in the region. The oblast administration promotes various green-energy projects.
