Italy mulls over investing in gas-fired power plant project in Brest Oblast

There are plans to build a gas-fired power plant in Brest Oblast, with the use of Italian investments, Belarusian Ambassador to Italy Evgeny Shestakov told reporters, BelTA learned.

According to Evgeny Shestakov, the amount of possible investment will reach €400-450 million. The gas-fired power plant will sell electricity domestically and internationally.

The diplomat also talked about a project to build a hydroelectric power plant on the Neman with the involvement of Italian investments. "If this project is implemented, it will enable Belarus to use hydro-resources of the Neman River most effectively, without damaging the environment," said Evgeny Shestakov. The estimated investment in the project is around €70-80 million.
