Lithuania urged to honor agreements with Belarus, Russia during disconnection from BRELL power ring

05.05.2022
MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – Lithuania intends to disconnect from the united energy system BRELL (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) as fast as possible. At the same time it is necessary to observe all the agreements with Belarus and Russia, TASS quoted Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys as saying.

In his words, disconnection from BRELL should proceed according to plan in order not to disrupt the stability of the energy system. The process should also be completed in accordance with existing agreements with the Russian Federation and Belarus in the sphere of energy industry.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte previously stated that Lithuania will be unable to disconnect from the BRELL ring in 2022. The necessary tests are supposed to take place in 2023 to check whether the country is ready to leave the united power grid.
