OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 11 May (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to answer all kinds of questions about the Belarusian nuclear power plant and is willing to show how it operates, Lithuanian blogger Kazimieras Juraitis told journalists on 11 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusians are cordial, hospitable people. They showed us as much as they could at the nuclear power plant and answered all our questions. I would like to tell people objectively about the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The whole world knows that nuclear energy is a safe and clean source of energy,” Kazimieras Juraitis said.

According to him, what the Lithuanian media are telling people about Belarus has nothing to do with reality. “They are absolutely biased. An information warfare is going on. These statements are nothing but politics that should be separated from our everyday life,” the Lithuanian blogger said.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant uses the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. It is an evolutionary nuclear power plant design with third-generation water-moderated reactors with enhanced safety. Such designs boast improved technical and economic parameters. A combination of active and passive safeguards is their key feature. The building housing the reactor is covered by a double protective shell. The reactor can survive an earthquake, a hurricane, flooding, an explosion, and even a falling aircraft.

The VVER technology is by far the most demanded and tested in the world. The technology was used to commission nuclear power plants in China and India over the course of the last ten years and will be used to commission nuclear power plants in Egypt, Turkey, Hungary, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan.
