Lithuanian experts have been invited to Belarus for the sake of consultations on nuclear safety, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA after the latest working visit of Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna to Lithuania.
The source said that Alena Kupchyna had been the head of the delegation of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs during consultations with the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius.
During the visit in line with the decision made by the 35th session of the Implementation Committee of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) that took place in Geneva, Switzerland on 15-17 March the Belarusian side invited Lithuanian experts to visit Belarus for the sake of consultations on nuclear safety and environmental protection.
During the negotiations the sides discussed in detail the bilateral agenda, Belarus’ interaction with the European Union, including the Eastern Partnership Initiative, and regional cooperation.
Belarus’ representatives drew attention to the importance of continued mutually beneficial contacts in the spheres of trade and investment, transport and transit, ecology and energy industry, the expansion of the throughput capacity of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. In particular, participants of the consultations spoke in positive terms about efforts of the Belarusian and Lithuanian sides to upgrade the small border traffic checkpoint Losha-Shumskas up to the international category.
