Moscow to host public forum-dialogue on nuclear safety

8th International Public Forum-Dialogue “Nuclear Power, Society, Safety 2013” will take place in Moscow on 11-12 April, BelTA learnt from the Public Council of the Rosatom State Corporation.

The forum-dialogue is a unique discussion platform for scientists, experts, government officials, Russian and international public. Participants will discuss international and national plans for safe development of nuclear power, peaceful use of nuclear power, development of cooperation between nuclear power companies and local communities. Plenary sessions and roundtables will highlight nuclear power development trends in Russia and in the world, nuclear non-proliferation, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, nuclear radiological and ecological safety, combined use of energy resources, including alternative ones, prospects for nuclear technology transfer into other fields (medicine, mechanical and instrument engineering, microelectronics, technology for development of new qualities of materials).

It is expected that the forum-dialogue will be attended by representatives of the environment and other public organizations, manufacturing companies, scientists and experts, officials of the nuclear power industry, federal and regional legislative and executive bodies, international and foreign nuclear power organizations.

Organizers of the forum are the Public Council of the Rosatom State Corporation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Interregional Public Environmental Organization Green Cross, Vernadsky Nongovernmental Environmental Foundation, International Ecological Public Organization GREENLIGHT and the Russian Environmental Congress.

According to experts, energy use has recently become a very important topic. The world is changing fast, both in terms of the emergence of new rapidly developing economies and in terms of growing energy consumption in developed countries. On the whole, energy is of great importance for economic development, environment, social and national security. Scientists believe that stable electricity supply is necessary for manufacturing almost any industrial product, ensuring high quality of life and addressing environmental issues.
