Norway, Finland, Sweden, Belarus to outline areas of cooperation in nuclear safety

The heads of the radiation and nuclear safety authorities of North European countries (Norway, Sweden and Finland) are in Belarus on a visit from 27 to 29 May for meetings with experts in the relevant fields, BelTA learned from the Communications and Public Information Office of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department (Gosatomnadzor) of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.

"The focus of the visit is on the emergency preparedness and response to nuclear and radiation situations. It is expected that during the visit the radiation and nuclear safety authorities of the Nordic countries and Belarus will identify possible areas of cooperation,” Gosatomnadzor said.

The delegation will take part in a meeting with the senior officials of the Emergencies Ministry, and get acquainted with the activities of the national center for control and response to emergencies. The European experts will also visit the site of construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant near Ostrovets and meet with senior officials and specialists of Gosatomnadzor.
