Maximum availability of information and maximum transparency are needed in the course of nuclear energy industry development. Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Jacques Regaldo made the statement during the opening ceremony of the eighth international forum Atomexpo in Moscow on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

According to Jacques Regaldo, safety must come first in the development of nuclear energy industry. “On the one hand, many countries are busy building new reactors, opening new power plants. On the other hand, a number of countries are saddled with the problem of aging nuclear power plants. In this situation we need maximum availability of information and maximum transparency. Safety must be the cornerstone. We expect the community to support, create and follow the highest safety standards with regard to nuclear energy industry,” noted the WANO Chairman.

In turn, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General, Director for Development and International Business of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom, said he believes that nuclear energy industry can play an essential role in forming a carbon-free energy budget. There is no difference of opinion in the nuclear energy industry about that.

This year’s Atomexpo attracted the largest number of people on record, with over 4,500 people from over 55 countries present. According to Kirill Komarov, the fact testifies to the colossal interest in the development of nuclear energy industry in the entire world.

After the opening ceremony representatives of the administration of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Nuclear Association, the World Association of Nuclear Operators, and the Russian state corporation Rosatom went on a tour of the expo that highlights the development of nuclear energy industry in many countries across the globe. Among other areas they visited the stand of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The international nuclear energy industry forum Atomexpo is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 30 May – 1 June. This year’s forum is focused on discussing nuclear energy industry as a basis for carbon-free energy budget. An international specialized congress and an expo have been organized as part of the event. Atomexpo has been organized by Rosatom and is run by OOO Atomexpo.
