On-the-job training for 300 Belarusian nuclear power plant personnel in Russian Novovoronezh

19.02.2016

About 300 personnel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be able to go through on-the-job training at the training and education center of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant from April 2016 through December 2017, BelTA learned from representatives of the Information and Public Relations Department of the enterprise Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant.

Personnel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant have already gone through three educational courses at the training and education center of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.

Undergraduate training for fifth-year students of the Belarusian National Technical University at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant ended on 19 February. During the training session students specializing in steam turbine plants were made familiar with peculiarities of operating the thermal and mechanical equipment of the nuclear power plant. The educational course involved five departments of the Russian enterprise. The curriculum was scheduled in a way to give the Belarusian students as many opportunities to acquire practical skills as possible.

Representatives of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant noted that the innovative design VVER-1200 has been chosen to build the nuclear power plant in Belarus while the same design is now used to build the sixth and seventh power-generating units of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant. This is why Belarusian specialists often visit Novovoronezh for the sake of sharing the best practices. More than 90 specialists from Belarus have been to the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant in the last five years. Eight visits were arranged for the sake of undergraduate training and on-the-job training of students of the Belarusian National Technical University. Personnel of the Russian nuclear power plant praised qualifications of the Belarusian students. The next on-the-job training session for future Belarusian nuclear industry professionals is scheduled for June 2016.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is a branch of the Russian public joint-stock company Rosenergoatom Concern. It is Russia's first nuclear power plant with water-moderated power reactors that use pressurized normal water. Three power-generating units are now in use. The first and second units were halted in 1984 and 1990 respectively. The construction of the sixth and seventh power-generating units began in 2007 using the AES-2006 design.
