Students of the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) were able to get some predegree practice at the Rostov nuclear power plant in Russia in February, representatives of the Information and Public Relations Office of the Rostov nuclear power plant told BelTA.
The students specialize in operating steam-turbine plants of nuclear power plants. They arrived at the nuclear power plant in order to get familiar with peculiarities of operating thermal and mechanical equipment of nuclear power plants.
Most of the studying took place in the education and training division of the Rostov nuclear power plant. Under the guidance of instructors the students took a close look at how thermal technology is used at the nuclear power plant, at the structure of the main divisions, the technical parameters of the divisions, and learned how to go through radiation exposure monitoring procedures.
The BNTU student Yevgeny Maslov noted: “At the Rostov nuclear power plant we received detailed answers to questions concerning the operation of the nuclear power plant. It is very important that we’ve acquired knowledge about the operation of all the equipment instead of individual divisions or subunits. When you can see for yourself how the work goes on in a full-scale simulator of the control room or real models of the turbine or the reactor, then theoretical knowledge is merged with practical experience.”
In July 2017 the students will graduate and will be assigned to work as operating personnel of the turbine division of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
The Rostov nuclear power plant has been helping train young professionals for Belarus’ first nuclear power plant since 2014. Every year the nuclear power plant welcomes 15-18 people from Belarus. Apart from the Belarusian National Technical University students from the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics can get on-the-job training at the Rostov nuclear power plant.
The Rostov nuclear power plant is part of the Russian concern Rosenergoatom. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk water reservoir 13.5km away from Volgodonsk. The nuclear power plant uses VVER-1000 reactors with the output capacity of 1,000MW. The first power-generating unit was commissioned in 2011. The second one went online in 2010. The third one was commissioned on 17 September 2015. The construction of the fourth one is in progress.
