Recharging for electric cars in Minsk by year end

16.08.2013
A recharging station for electric vehicles will be set up in Minsk by the end of 2013, the press service of the Belarusian industrial group Belorusneft told BelTA.

“A tender is in progress to buy special equipment for charging electric vehicles. Installing the equipment at three existing refueling stations of Belorusneft’s proprietary chain in Minsk and Gomel is the idea,” explained the press service. “The move is expected to encourage Belarusians to switch to using environmentally friendly transport en masse”.

Electric vehicles are powered by one or several electric motors fueled by an autonomous power source instead of an internal combustion engine. Such vehicles emit no harmful exhausts, do not use oil-based fuel, deicing chemicals, motor oils, and filters for these liquids.

The industrial group Belorusneft is the country’s largest retailer of petroleum products as well as pressurized natural gas. Belorusneft accounts for up to 70% of the automobile fuel sold in retail in Belarus. The proprietary chain comprises over 510 outlets or two thirds of the country’s total.
