Rosatom intent on building one reactor per annum in Russia

For the next few years the pace of commissioning new nuclear installations in the Russian Federation will be close to one power-generating unit per annum. The information was released by Sergei Kiriyenko, Director General of the Russian state nuclear power engineering corporation Rosatom, in his speech during the international forum of nuclear industry suppliers Atomex 2015 in Moscow on 13 October, BelTA has learned.

In his words, the pace is determined by the current consumption and the country’s expected economic development. “We keep building nuclear power-generating units in the Russian Federation in series but unlike plans for 2007-2008 when we intended to commission 2-3 units per annum, the pace will be about one unit per annum for the next few years,” said Sergei Kiriyenko. He reminded that Rosatom’s foreign orders portfolio includes about 30 units in line with the contracts the company has signed and the binding intergovernmental agreements. The Rosatom head stated that at present the bulk of the company’s orders are located outside the Russian Federation.

Sergei Kiriyenko went on saying that competition is even tougher on the foreign market, this is why price, the quality of equipment, and timely deliveries get more important. “These are additional requirements we set as we sign agreements,” said the Rosatom head. He continued by saying that foreign contracts are more predictable and allow longer purchasing cycles.
