Rosatom opens representative office in Tokyo

15.11.2018
The Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation has opened a Rosatom-Japan representative office in Tokyo, BelTA learned from the press service of the Rusatom-International Network company.

At the opening ceremony, Rosatom’s First Deputy Director General Kirill Komarov noted that Tokyo has historically been among key foreign partners of Rosatom. “We have been cooperating for more than 20 years. Rosatom has been a leading supplier of uranium products to Japan. We have delivered the products to nine out of ten Japanese energy companies. Expanding our presence here is a logical continuation of the projects that we have successfully implemented,” Kirill Komarov said.

He stressed that the opening of the representative office will promote cooperation in such areas as nuclear medicine, fast fission reactors. “We are optimistic about joint research in the field of reducing the amount of radioactive waste and mitigating the impact of the Fukushima 1 accident,” Kirill Komarov said.

The economic cooperation between Russia and Japan, with the opening of the Rosatom Japan office being one of its milestones, has been growing steadily and progressively, Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin said at the opening ceremony. According to him, last year mutual trade rose by 14% to total $18 billion. This trend will continue this year.
