MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) - The Standing Commission on Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport and Communications of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus had a working meeting with a delegation of the State Duma Energy Committee of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in Minsk on 16 March, BelTA has learned.
The meeting was held within the framework of the working visit of the State Duma delegation to Belarus from 15 to 18 March. Belarusian and Russian MPs discussed the status of the Union State programs to set up the Union State common markets for electricity, gas, oil and petroleum products, prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation in priority areas such as the energy sector (nuclear energy and radioactive waste management, import substitution in the fuel and energy complex, expansion of the use of gas motor fuel and LNG in transport and gasification.
"The purpose of the working meeting is to establish contacts, to compare notes on topical issues of the development of the fuel and energy complex of our countries, to map out ways to solve problems both within the framework of national legislations and within the framework of the Union State programs," said Igor Komarovsky, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport and Communications of the House of Representatives.
"The cooperation in nuclear energy has great prospects. The first power unit is already up and running. The second unit will go online this year. Work is underway to address issues of the further development of both nuclear energy and the use of new technologies related to the nuclear industry, including in medicine, the production of new materials. The cooperation program is very extensive, which requires regulatory support. The meeting will discuss current issues and establish working interaction between the appropriate committees,” Chairman of the State Duma Energy Committee Pavel Zavalny said.
