The power substation Staroborisovskaya has been opened in Minsk to feed power to the areas around the National Library of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The power substation has been built with assistance of the Slovenian company Riko for a total of €21.3 million. Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Karl Erjavec and Riko CEO Janez Skrabec took part in the opening ceremony.
Belarusian Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik explained that the new power substation will feed energy to all the residential blocks, multifunctional complexes, and municipal buildings nearby. State-of-the-art construction technologies were used to build the electrical substation. The equipment was supplied by the industry’s top vendors. Vladimir Potupchik underlined that Riko Company had won recognition as a reliable partner and always honors its commitments on time.
The power substation Staroborisovskaya is a modern one and uses an enclosed design. All the electrical equipment is securely protected against the weather as well as unauthorized persons and stray animals.
Among other facilities the 110/10kV power substation will provide electricity to the Mayak Minsk residential complex, the future Gazprom Transgaz Belarus headquarters, and a new multifunctional complex in Makayonka Street. Apart from that, the electrical substation will make access to the power grid more reliable for households in the residential areas Vostok and Slepyanka as well as the residential estate Magistr. The new facility will create a power transformer capacity reserve of 80 MVA (mega-volt ampere) for Minsk’s Pervomaisky and Partizansky districts. It will improve access to the power grid infrastructure, which is a favorable factor for doing business and raising investments.
The electrical substation has been built in accordance with the national power grid development program for the period till 2016. The decision was made taking into account the rapid development of new residential areas around the National Library of Belarus. A lot of new residential buildings are commissioned in the area. All of them need reliable power supply.
The power substation was built by the Slovenian company Riko that employed Belarusian design companies, construction and installation enterprises, and transport companies as subcontractors. The Minsk city electrical company Minskenergo and its division Minsk Cable Networks acted as the customer in overseeing the design and construction of the power substation.
