The assembly of supports for bearings and shells of the low-pressure cylinders of the turbine unit has begun in the machine hall of the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, the ASE Company press service told BelTA. The company is the general designer and general contractor for the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The company represents the engineering division of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom.

According to Vitaly Polyanin, ASE Company Vice President and supervisor of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project, the operation represents the beginning of the work to install primary equipment in the machine room of the second power-generating unit. All the equipment has passed receipt inspection. The stator of the turbine unit’s generator will be installed in its designated position within the next few days.

All parts of the turbine have been made by the Russian company PAO Power Machines. The turbine unit is a five-component (four low-pressure cylinders and one high-pressure cylinder) double-flow machine with the output capacity of 1,200MW and the rotation frequency of 3,000RPM.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using a Russian design featuring VVER-1200 reactors near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
