Another batch of Belarusian nuclear power plant personnel getting trained in Novovoronezh

20.01.2017
Another batch of personnel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has started training at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from the Information and Public Relations Office of the enterprise Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant.

The batch includes operators of the reactor division, the turbine division, the chemical division, the electrical division, the heat automatics division as well as nuclear power plant shift supervisors and shift supervisors in charge of individual reactors.

According to the source, at present the Belarusian nuclear power plant primarily employs people, who worked at Belarusian heat power plants as well as Russian and Ukrainian nuclear power plants. People with experience of operating heat power plants will have peculiarities of the nuclear process physics as well as the operation of reactors explained to them. Specialists with a few years of operating nuclear power plants under their belt will focus on learning peculiarities of VVER-1200 reactors. Apart from that, it is important for every trainee to clearly understand what their area of responsibility is.

The first batch to be trained in 2017 includes 30 specialists of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. There are plans to train a total of 159 specialists from Belarus at premises of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant in 2017.

The curriculum will include a theoretical part and a practical part. The trainees will be lectured about peculiarities of the AES-2006 nuclear power plant design. After that they will start practicing at workstations in their respective divisions and using a full-sized simulator of the sixth power-generating unit.

VVER-1200 reactors of the generation 3+ are being built at the Belarusian nuclear power plant and at the Leningrad and Novovoronezh nuclear power plants in Russia. This is why Belarusian specialists often visit Novovoronezh for learning purposes. In 2016 the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant trained 72 specialists of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Apart from nuclear power plant construction the contract between Belarus and the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom includes personnel training. Russian specialists are employed at nuclear power plant construction sites and are available for consultations.

The project office International Center for Personnel Training was established as part of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant in early 2016 for the sake of implementing Rosatom’s strategies for reaching international markets and creating new products. The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is Russia’s first and only nuclear power plant with a training division like that.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
