A training center of the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant is ready to help train Belarusian nuclear specialists. Cooperation prospects were discussed during the visit of the delegation of the Directorate for the Construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant to the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant, BelTA learnt from Rosenergoatom.
The Belarusian delegation toured power generating unit No. 4 and the public information center of the NPP and was informed about the equipment procurement system and the operation of the NPP.
The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity up to 2,400MW. The first one is scheduled to go online in 2018. The designer and main contractor is the Russian company OAO NIAEP – ZAO Atomstroyexport.
The Belarusian NPP’s design stems from the AES-2006 design developed by the Saint Petersburg-based institute Atomenergoproject. The same project is used in the construction of the Leningrad NPP-2.
According to Energy Minister of Belarus Vladimir Potupchik, safety is an absolute priority for Belarus in the development of the national nuclear energy. According to experts, the construction of Belarus’ own nuclear power plant will enable the country to decommission inefficient generation sources, diversify electric energy production, optimize the energy sector and give an impetus to the industries associated with the construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.
