17.03.2023

OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 17 March (BelTA) – Belarus and the Russian Federation have agreed to cooperate in the sphere of import substitution in nuclear energy industry, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the Industry and Trade Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Gennady Sklyar as members of the lower chamber of the Russian parliament visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 17 March, BelTA has learned.

Gennady Sklyar said: “Belarus and Russia have established excellent contacts and projects in nuclear energy industry. The State Duma's Industry and Trade Committee met with colleagues in Belarus to discuss cooperation in import substitution, creation of new kinds of equipment. Nuclear power plants use turbines, complicated electric technology equipment. In conditions of sanctions we will very quickly find ways to create products together with colleagues, including Belarusian ones, in order to supply today's and tomorrow's nuclear power plant projects with the entire equipment lineup. Including information technologies and control systems.”

In his words, the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is busy setting up a new division that will focus on physical infrastructure.

“And from the microelectronics components, which are being created in Belarus, and to the kinds of equipment, instruments that are already being manufactured and can be manufactured in Russia, we will get a modern effective system for managing these most complicated facilities,” the MP added.

Gennady Sklyar also remarked that human resources are also of special significance for import substitution: Belarusian and Russian enterprises need to get specialists capable of dealing with the most complicated tasks.

“You and I have entered the age of atomic renaissance. The entire world is busy developing nuclear energy industry. Large units and small nuclear power plants are appearing. All of them need a very well-developed production sector. Equipment for nuclear power plants means high technologies,” Gennady Sklyar concluded.
