Belarus to hold NPP construction consultations with Lithuania soon

In the near future Belarus plans hold consultations with representatives of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the implementation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant project, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Belarus Vitaly Kulik said as he answered the questions at the meeting in Ostrovets on 17 August, BelTA has learnt.
The Belarusian official added that Ukraine and Poland had expressed their intention to take part in the Belarusian NPP project evaluation.
According to Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus Mikhail Mikhadyuk, the development works are underway at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in line with the design and project documentation. As for the foundation pit, works have been conducted to protect the loam layer from weather impact.
“As for the main works on the construction site, in line with the world practice, we can launch the construction as soon as we receive the relevant license. The NPP design and project documentation undergoes safety significance assessment. A big group of experts is involved in the work. The construction of the nuclear power plant will be launched once the license is received,” Mikhail Mikhadyuk said.
