Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project helps create new jobs

20.04.2016
The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant helps create new jobs, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko on 19 April.

“The Belarusian side should do as many operations as possible and should supply as much equipment as possible. We would like to create additional jobs so that our people could work,” noted Vladimir Semashko.

At present out of the 32 subcontractors working to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant, 27 ones are Belarusian. Since the project began, Belarusian companies have done 83.6% of the construction and installation operations. Apart from that, the construction of the nuclear power plant uses a lot of Belarusian materials such as cement, broken stone, sand, and so on.

According to the official, many Belarusian companies are now working to develop promising technologies that will come in handy for the construction of the nuclear power plant.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant, the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.
