Belarusian nuclear power plant satisfied with training standards of university students

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian nuclear power plant is satisfied with how well university graduates majoring in nuclear energy are trained. Deputy Head of the Education and Training Center of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Aleksandr Yerin made the statement during a roundtable session hosted by BelTA's press center on 28 October.

The official said: “We actively cooperate with universities and offer job experience and undergraduate training opportunities to students. We also participate in the process of assigning mandatory jobs to university graduates. For example I can say that for the last few years we've been receiving over 100 people for undergraduate training every year and about 70-80 people have been given jobs at our enterprise every year. These people demonstrate professional skills and we are satisfied with these graduates.”

An education and training center was commissioned in 2016 in order to train and offer career enhancement opportunities to Belarusian nuclear power plant specialists. A full-scale control room simulator and other simulators are installed in the center for the sake of personnel training.

Apart from that, Belarusian nuclear power plant specialists, who have a university degree and have experience of working at Belarusian thermal power plants, have spent some time in Russian education institutions in order to learn to operate nuclear power plants as part of additional training.

Apart from that, in a bid to improve the personnel training system, the Belarusian nuclear power plant works with the Energy Ministry and the national energy company Belenergo to send specialists for on-the-job training to operational power plants.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is the general contractor.
