MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – A unit of the Internal Troops of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry now guards the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA has learned.

A ceremony to deploy the security unit to guard one of the most important installations in the country took place on 5 April. An address from Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, Chief of the Internal Troops, Colonel Yuri Nazarenko was read out in front of the personnel of military unit No.7434. The congratulation reads: “Your unit is the successor of the NKVD's legendary 132nd Independent Convoy Battalion, which participated in the heroic defense of the Brest Fortress. Today the security of our country and millions of citizens directly depend on your professionalism, self-dedication, and the quality of service. Remember it every time you are sent to your guard posts.”

The unit's commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Vyacheslav Barakov checked the readiness of the guard detail, informed them about the situation they might expect for the duration of the mission, and ordered them to assume their guard posts. The first detail marched off to take care of access control and protection of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. A lot of work had been done before that: the experience of protection of nuclear power plants had been examined, personnel had been selected and recruited, specialists had been trained, and the security systems had been tuned and tested.

The engineering solutions used as part of the Belarusian nuclear power plant security system had gone through a long period of thorough testing and tuning. According to First Deputy Commander of the Internal Troops, Chief of Staff, Major-General Igor Burmistrov, it is a great honor and a lot of responsibility to perform a combat task in time of peace. Military unit No.7434 has all the weapons, materiel, and special equipment it may need to do the job.
