Belarusian nuclear power plant to start getting nuclear fuel in late 2018

20.01.2017
There are plans to start delivering nuclear fuel to the Belarusian nuclear power plant in late 2018, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk on 20 January.

The official reminded that in line with the general contract on building the Belarusian nuclear power plant the general contractor will have to supply enough fuel to fully load the two reactors and to reload them one more time.

An agreement in addition to the general contract is in development to stipulate terms of nuclear fuel deliveries, which are supposed to start in late 2018. The first shipment of fuel will be delivered for the first reactor.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
