Belarusian-Russian agreement on nuclear power plant construction loan amended

15.10.2015

The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus ratified the protocol on amending the Belarusian-Russian agreement on the state export loan for building the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 15 October, BelTA has learned.

The bill on ratifying the protocol was signed on 25 May 2015 to be brought in the House of Representatives on 18 September 2015. The amendments have been brought about by the fact that the heads of government of Belarus and Russia have reached an agreement on expanding the use of the Russian ruble in transactions between the two countries.

The amendments will allow using Russian rubles along with U.S. dollars for repaying and servicing the state loan granted by Russia in U.S. dollars. The transactions will use the exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Russia three days before each payment. Belvnesheconombank will have to inform Russian Vnesheconombank about the currency of the transaction 15 days before the transaction.
