BelNPP first unit reaches 100% capacity

MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) - The first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has reached 100% capacity, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry.

"The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant reached the nominal capacity at 19.57 on 12 January," the press service informed.

The thermal capacity of the unit is 3200MW and the electric capacity is 1170MW. According to the press service, static and dynamic tests will continue in line with the stage-by-stage pilot commercial operation program. After their successful completion within 15 days, a comprehensive test of the equipment and systems of the power unit at nominal capacity will be carried out.

"The power unit will be accepted into commercial operation in due course after the successful completion of the comprehensive equipment tests," the press service added.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The pilot commercial operation of the first unit of the nuclear power plant began in December 2020.
