Construction of Belarusian nuclear power plant on schedule

The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) proceeds on schedule, Belarus Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko told Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during the visit to the BelNPP construction site on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko was interested in security issues. He emphasized that there is no need to be in a hurry while building the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The President was assured that there are five stages of control at the construction site. Vladimir Semashko stressed that the construction proceeds in compliance with strict quality control standards.

In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant, the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020. Construction works are currently in progress at the main buildings and structures of the first and second power-generating units and auxiliary facilities of the nuclear power plant. Plans have been made to start assembling a reactor, a turbine, and a steam generator, welding the main circulation line in 2016. All equipment of the prolonged manufacturing cycle has been chosen and corresponding contracts have been signed already. The cost of the equipment contracts will be slightly more than $2 billion. Major deliveries of equipment will begin in 2016.
