MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – The European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) approved a preliminary report on the expert evaluation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets after ENSREG technical experts visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant site on 9-10 February, BelTA learned from the European Commission website.
The preliminary peer review report on the implementation of the Belarusian stress test national action plan takes a look at the measures Belarus has adopted with regard to seven high-priority issues as well as recommendations from the ENSREG stress test report of 2018. The preliminary report reads: “Based on the available information and the site visit, progress has been made in addressing all recommendations related to the seven high priority issues.”
The preliminary report concludes the first stage of the ongoing peer review. The second stage will cover all the other recommendations and will include another visit of ENSREG experts to the Belarusian nuclear power plant site once the pandemic situation gets better. The final peer review report will be completed and published after progress in fulfilling the remaining recommendations is analyzed.
The European Union's stress test methods were worked out after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011. Belarus voluntarily participates in the process.
The European Commission will continue interacting with Belarus in order to ensure the highest level of safety in the course of commissioning of the nuclear power plant.
The safety of nuclear installations in the European Union and neighboring countries is the highest priority for the European Commission and national energy safety agencies of the European Union, the European Commission website reads.
