First stage of military base to guard Belarusian nuclear power plant ready in 2016

22.04.2016
The first stage of the military base for the internal security troops unit that will guard the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be commissioned in 2016, BelTA learned from the latest edition of the Vo Slavu Rodiny newspaper of the Belarusian Defense Ministry.

While the construction of the military base for the Air Force and Air Defense units has just begun, the construction of the military base for the Interior Ministry’s internal security troops is nearing completion. The first stage will be commissioned in 2016. A community center and a vehicle maintenance and repair station will be built in 2017. Most of the facilities of the military base have been built already. Finishing operations are in progress at some of them.

BelTA reported earlier that about 300 military personnel will be assigned to guard the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Military unit No. 7434 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Zhadobin has already been set up for that purpose. All the candidates have to go through mandatory testing powered by a special software and hardware complex that has been designed for the internal security troops for the sake of evaluating professional psychological and physiological qualities of the military personnel. Due to peculiarities of guarding the nuclear power plant military ranks in the military unit will be one grade above those in similar posts in other army units. More money will be paid to the personnel as well. The military unit will be fully fleshed out and operational by September 2017.

According to the source, the Voenproekt Institute takes care of designing the military base and other military installations the Belarusian nuclear power plant will need. Sergei Karpov, Director of the Voenproekt Institute, stated that the institute’s involvement in the construction of the military bases designed to protect the Belarusian nuclear power plant represents a new stage in the development of the design institute. Thanks to steady funding and sufficient timeframes the institute has been able to rise to the challenge and deliver a quality product. Over 90% of the work has been done in-house, with third-party contractors hired only in exceptional cases.
